In 2015, Rev. Lydia Muñoz conducted a "ritual of re-naming" for those in transition.
The mission of the Philadelphia Trans-Health Conference is "to educate and empower trans* individuals on issues of health and well-being; educate and inform allies and health service providers; and facilitate networking, community-building, and systemic change. We strive to create an accessible and respectful environment that is inclusive of diverse gender-identities and expressions as well as inclusive of diverse opinions and ideas." The 2016 conference is scheduled for June 9-11.
For several years, Reconciling United Methodists (RUMs) have served as volunteers at the conference and have been a prayerful presence. We need your help to staff the RUM table in the Pennsylvania Convention Center from Thursday June 9 to Saturday, June 11, 2016. In order to demonstrate the commitment on the part of the Reconciling Congregations to the full inclusion of LGBTQ persons in the life of the church, the welcome table will be on display at the conference. Flowers, candy, brochures, pictures and a banner will provide visual interest, but what is really needed is the personal touch. Pairs of volunteers are needed to take 3 ½ hour shifts staffing the table each of the three days of the conference. The approximate timing would be 8:30am to 12noon; 12noon to 3:30pm; and 3:30pm to 7pm. Please contact [email protected] to sign up for a time slot. A volunteer information sheet will be shared with each volunteer.
